J.S. Held expande sus capacidades en consultoría sobre códigos de construcción, ingeniería contra incendios y análisis forense en el oeste de Canadá con la adquisición de GHL Consultants
LEER MÁSA client in the insurance space was experiencing leakage in its business interruption claims and was unaware of the scale or cost of the issues. The company was spending resources on back-and-forth discussions and debates with insureds to reach claim settlements that were inaccurate and causing frustration for all involved. Efforts were made toward training its team members to achieve consistent results across internal calculations, but the problem persisted.
Forensic accounting experts from J.S. Held were retained to assess the cause(s) of the leakage and develop a solution. Over a three-month period, J.S. Held experts worked in parallel with the adjusters to examine the processes undertaken and review the adjuster results. This enabled our team to identify lasting solutions.
As a result of these efforts, the team identified that small and medium-sized business interruption claims were being settled at a cost that was, on average, 33% higher than the actual value of the claims, plus the value of the additional time and resources consumed in reaching those settlements.
Over the course of our team’s investigation, we identified several culprits for the claims leakage, including:
Armed with this information, the forensic accounting team redesigned the process to allow for greater insured involvement, reduced adjuster time, and improved tracking of errors. Once implemented, the client realized an immediate cost savings based on a noticeable reduction in claims leakage, as well as improved post-claim communication from insureds.
Ultimately, J.S. Held experts developed a new protocol that resolved claims leakage issues and improved quantification consistency and client communication while reducing the time requirements of adjusters. This included a rollout with comprehensive training and ongoing support.
