LEER MÁSA major hurricane struck a new four-star resort and hotel under construction in the southern United States. Damage to the property, including water intrusion, mold, and damage to the facility's structure and contents, caused a significant delay in the resort's planned opening date.
The property owner filed a claim with its builder's risk carrier for policy limits with various market members. While quantifying the initial damages, the property suffered additional losses, including a fire, impacts from a second hurricane, and new water damage.
Experts from J.S. Held’s Forensic Accounting, Builder’s Risk, Building Consulting, Contents, Forensic Architecture & Engineering, and Environmental, Health & Safety teams were brought in to assess the damage on all claims, perform scoping and clerking of the water and mold remediation, analyze the physical damage, perform cost analysis including soft cost and business income quantification from the delay, conduct architectural and engineering assessments, and help in the preservation of building contents.
As a result of our involvement and collaboration with the adjustment team and the insured’s representatives, all claims were settled amicably.
