A boutique law firm required urgent eDiscovery support during an active investigation of a publicly traded company by two government agencies. Concerns had been raised regarding improperly collected and processed electronic data, and the previous eDiscovery provider had missed critical production deadlines.
J.S. Held swiftly stepped in to inventory and coordinate the transfer of over 2TB of electronic data. We worked to understand the scope and requirements of both government investigations, ensuring all future review and production deadlines were met.
By leveraging our global team and "follow-the-sun" protocol, we enabled continuous workflows. When the U.S. team signed off for the day, the APAC team took over, followed by EMEA-ensuring uninterrupted progress. Our team collaborated closely with the client's IT team and the former eDiscovery provider to remediate issues related to mobile phone collections and prior productions.
We partnered with counsel to identify, review, and produce documents in strict compliance with agency guidelines, ensuring timely and properly formatted submissions with all required metadata. Working closely with counsel, our team performed custom deduplication and chat message linking across the data population to address specific government agency requests.
Our Digital Investigations & Discovery team conducted key stakeholder interviews, leading to the identification of new data sources for preservation and subsequent remote collections. We developed a forensically sound workflow to remotely re-collect mobile phone data from key custodians. As part of this process, we helped custodians back up their data to cloud accounts, which were then accessed using forensic tools-saving both time and cost for the client. We offered advisory support and recommended strategic approaches throughout the engagement lifecycle, leveraging our deep experience in similar matters to enable more efficient workflows.
Impressed by our professionalism, expertise, and dedicated focus, the boutique firm engaged J.S. Held for three additional active litigations requiring remote collections of terabytes of data and dozens of rolling document productions across different jurisdictions. As a value-add, J.S. Held provided Learning & Development sessions on generative AI (GenAI) and the benefits of AI-assisted review.
As part of each engagement, our eDiscovery professionals transitioned the firm to a new, AI-powered review platform that better aligned with their needs. This switch resulted in an average cost savings of approximately 30% on eDiscovery-related expenses.
